Shaunak Sen’s Documentary was Shortlisted for Oscars 2023

Because of the excellent documentaries made in the country, India’s participation in international film festivals is growing by the day. Shaunak Sen’s documentary All That Breathes has been officially nominated for an Oscar in the Documentary Feature category in 2023. The documentary has performed well at film festivals throughout the globe, including Sundance, Valladolid International Film Festival, and Cannes Film Festival.

The subject of the documentary is a two brothers who have devoted their whole lives to the cause of rescuing and rehabilitating injured birds. The city of Delhi is known for its dreary environment, therefore the devotion shown to a black kite stands in sharp contrast to it.

The critically acclaimed movie All That Breathes, which was an international co-production and was made in Hindi, is in the running for one of the top five spots in the category for the best documentary feature.

This Shaunak Sen film has added another feather to its crown and flown a few inches closer to an Oscar nomination after winning Best Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival.

Now that the documentary has entered the second round of the Oscar sweepstakes, voting for nominations will commence on January 12. The 95th Academy Awards nominations will be revealed on January 24, 2023, with the ceremony taking place on March 12, 2023. Sen recognises that the next stage is to intensify the campaigning.

Three Indian films and one song have reached the 95th Academy Awards shortlist, the prelude to the final nominations, which will be announced in a month. With more categories to be revealed, here’s a recap of what’s been chosen thus far.
